About ETI-OSA LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Eti-Osa Local Government was established by a decree on May 17th, 1989, and inaugurated on June 1st, 1989, excised from the defunct Lagos Island. Initially, it encompassed urban areas in Apapa, Victoria Island, Ikoyi, and riverine communities like Ikate, Ajiran, Ajah, Okun Mopo, Ogombo, Langbasa, and Sangotedo.

Chief EGO Beecroft and later Mr. M. O. A. Kosoko administered it initially. Engr. Murphy Adetoro became the Chairman in 1991, marking the transition to civil rule. Over the years, notable leaders have led developmental projects from Apapa to Sangotedo. Apapa Local Government later emerged separately.

On October 28th, 2003, Eti-Osa was subdivided into four during the creation of additional Local Council Development Areas, with Igbo-Efon as the headquarters.

Presently, Eti-Osa borders Lagos Lagoon and the Atlantic Ocean to the North and South, with Eti-Osa East LCDA to the East and Iru-Victoria Island LCDA to the West. The area is culturally rich, celebrating festivals like Elegba, Igunnuko, Isese, and Egungun. Most residents follow Christianity or Islam, with Yoruba being widely spoken.

Notable communities include Ikate-Elegushi, Ajiran, Ikota, Igbo-Efon, Osapa, Olugborogan, Okun-Alfa, Lafiaji, Aro, Gbara, Maiyegun, Itedo, Agungi, Idado, Ikota Housing Estate, Orile-Ilasan, Iroko-Awe, Jakande Estate, among others. The Local Government hosts state-of-the-art housing estates and corporate organizations.
